Lol, I've found the easiest way to not get summoned on is Anti-magic.... if 75% of spells are failing, then it gets much more simple. On the other hand, when you get used to not being summoned on you get lax and complacent. All-in-all, I like it when I kill powerful magic casting enemies and don't receive a scratch because of that favorite line of mine... "*****'s attempt to cast was blocked by your Anti-Magic Field."

Took the risk and completed the dive. After all the trepidation of the place and never entering I was pleasantly surprised at how kewl it was. Climbing Gear rocked and saw many pits.
Pity it is red >, as to what lvl to enter it at is a hard one to guess.

Turn on sound & listen out for quylthulgs or other nasty things blinking in your face and surrounding you with balrogs. Always be prepared to use a teleport scroll if a situation looks even remotely scary.

So main idea - to create a lot of walls around so monster cant summon nasty things around you. Another strategy - to dig, like Raxxster wrote in this topic:

Monsters can "smell" players one square away from the squares that are in LOS. In your case, the spot just below you was open for summoning, because it's in LOS and you're right next to it. And summoning doesn't care about placement of summoned monsters, so it filled that spot with an archlich and all the other spots next to it with various high undead.

So yeah, to minimize summoning, use antisummon corridors.
