Deep descent scrolls to avoid "grey" depth of dungeon

I like to have full walkthrough the game - clear all dungeons. But its not so fun to get through "grey" levels.

For example:
I'm lvl 31. I just finished Barrow Downs. Now I want to go to Old Forest and kill Old Man Willow. But I have to go through loads of "grey" (no exp there) and boring levels to do so. At each lvlv I have to spend 2 minutes for feeling. Not really fun ;)

May be add deep descent scrolls to the game? When you read such scroll you could go 5 levels down, for example (and get your feeling). Such scrolls could be rare and expensive (like 5k gold), so it wouldn't be harrassed.

get yourself a magic mapping scroll, and dive to white lvl, then go back one lvl, wait time for feeling and save lots of time, not waiting.
And going through to grey/yellow lvl is intentional (i believe it was intentional change), some years ago you was able to just read recall, and ascend to lvl corresponding to deepest/tallest point you ever been, or last lvl of dungeon if dungeon was not deep/tall enough
5k is not close to expensive :) The runes for runies or books for mages are more expensive ;p

Thanks, but I already use magic mapping scrolls. I speak about problem that you need to wait 2 minutes at each level to get feeling - you have to do it every time if you play NE. At EL mode of course there isn't such problem at all ;)

As I play only at traditional roguelike-mode with 1 life, gray levels isn't too interesting to dive if its deep dungeon. Its bearable, but quite dull. With Deep descent scroll it would be much more fun.

Also 5k in NE-mode is good amount of gold. If it would be 5k - it would be one of the most expensive scrolls for regular use - more expensive then teleport, for example. But as its kinda "bad" scroll (like summon undead) and could take you into trable if you read it accidentally, maybe make it "drop only".. :|

Regarding dungeon bosses, characters have to beat the dungeon to get to them, not teleport directly to their final floor, which they would if the previous floors were grey. That aside, however, grey floors give no exp because they're lower level. This means that the threat from monsters is lower too. If you're high enough level to be seriously concerned about loss of character from the risk of exploring a dungeon floor that you didn't get a feeling about, even though the risk is very low when the floor is far below your character level, you should at that level already have acquired means of ESP that let you view what is going on on the floor. If you haven't, you can probably buy an ESP item from other players. As a guideline: Earliest ESP from crowns typically is available at level 32 to 33. However, you may already acquire ESP-Evil before level 30, which can be considered good enough. (Hound packs, which are the usual case of lethal animal encounters, won't push the dungeon feeling.) Another option are rods of detection.

Thanks for an advice, but even with ESP there is big chance to get into trable just from start - you could meet bad guy at terrifying level @ start, near stairs. Not high chance, but all chances are possible... So I wouldn't risk to go anywhere without feeling 8-)

Anyway, scroll of Deep descent is nice feature, quite roguelike-style item :) It would be awesome to see it in-game one day.

if you enter the level for few turn you get nice bonus to AC, so you should survive even with monster ood. if something attacks, take stairs back, if nothing attacks use rod of detection to see monster (no empty mind monsters). If you encounter ood monster after you moved from stairs, you still have teleport scroll, to moved to safer location

Thanks, I used to do it even with feeling. But still there is always a chance to have a bad luck... I prefer to reduce this chances. So I won't go somewhere without feeling, no thank you :mrgreen:

Now I see this idea in a different view. Actually it would be fun to add new "life-saving" possibility - to fall down to next lvl(s). So if its very dangerous lvl, maybe its a good idea not to teleport around it, but to fall down?

This could be like Probability travel magic, but more dangerous (so it woudln't be too imba). For example, scrolls of deep descent _could_ get you deeper - when you use it, you come random depth (up to -500 for example).
