Right now there are some totally useless items, for example "Rings of Sustain ...". all of them just rubbish except if its an randart. May be add possibility for the game to generate "rare" variant of such rings? Something in the middle between randarts and common rings. Its close to this idea of creating ego items.. But rare items has to have more random properties.
For example, lets "Carnelian Ring of Sustain Might" could be generated as a rare variant with one of the base resistances and stealth +1 to +3.
So lets all basic items would have small chance to be "rare" - with some interesting properties Such items wouldn't break game balance (cause they are far away from high-end randarts; rares has to be middle-game items) but would add some fun. I'll be quite pleased to find something like Ring of fire resistance with bonus blindness resistance..
The same with amulets.
Also it would make shop scumming in IDDC less effective - lets rare items would be possible to aquire only from monsters?
I'm not sure in this idea.. It could break balance if bonuses would be too high - I got such fear... So maybe it could be polished better or transformed to another idea. Please discuss

I wrote it already in other topic, but I'll repeat. There are loads of RPGs with such mechanics, ToME4 wasn't first there.
TomeNET could take everything best from RPG/roguelikes genre, its totally right approach. But not all ideas is suitable from TomeNET, its very hard to add something and do not ruin game balance. We need to adapt, polish and balance them.
