4.4.9c is a pretty tiny release, which just makes the experimental changes (two new character slots) of the previous posting official.
More changes are:
-added two special character slots to all player accounts
-macro wizard allows "blank" poly-into macro, which will prompt for form
-client font sizes in "font cycling" (option '=f') have been reduced

Updating just your TomeNET.exe file is actually sufficient (and maybe copy over r_info.txt, k_info.txt and a_info.txt too, for up2date in-game artifact/monster lore via ~6 and ~7 respectively).

Server-side changes are at http://www.tomenet.eu/phpBB3/viewtopic. ... 1277#p1277

A little explanation about 'Create a new slot-exclusive character':
If you choose this, the character you make will be dedicated to either PvP (if you pick pvp-mode) or Ironman Deep Dive Challenge (if you pick any other character mode). If you make such an IDDC-character, it will automatically ghost-die if you gain any experience outside of the Ironman Deep Dive dungeon.

Changes in 4.5.0, since 4.4.9c:

Client-side:
-Sound/music pack configuration is no longer reset when extracting a new client version over an old one, so no more need for reinstalling those packs after a client update.
-It is now possible to look at specific grids by pressing 'l' to look and then 'p' to manually place the cursor, followed by 'l' again on the desired grid.
-The client will no longer load macro files named like your account, to allow creating a character of the same name as your account without running into macro loading hassles. If y
-r_info.txt, k_info.txt and a_info.txt updated, which are used for the artifact/monster lore feature in ~ screen.
-Runecraft has been overhauled big time, this client is required to use it.

4.5.1 released -- client-side changes since 4.5.0:

-Loading an auto-inscription file based on account name has been removed, instead create a file 'global, ins' which now works like 'global.prf' file for macros: It will always be loaded for all your characters.
-A bug that prevented loading an auto-inscription file that was named same as your account has been fixed. Deprecated now anyway, see the line above.
-It is now possible to chat while in character screen ('C') and also in the macro menu ('%').
-Audio options were moved to a page of their own.
-New options 'hilite_chat' and 'hibeep_chat' were added, which will highlight and/or beep if your character or account name appears in a chat line.
-Fixed a client crash bug that could occur in kill screen and message history screens if big_map option was enabled.
-The Linux and OSX clients will now show their version number in the main window's title bar, same as the Windows client.
-The mimic power list now shows fail chance and mana cost for each power.
-The macro wizard allows 'macro chaining' now, which means instead of specifying a hot key to bind the macro to, you may press '%', which will allow you to create another macro (and more after that if you like) - the resulting compound macro can finally be bound to a hot key, so you can execute multiple macros with one key.
-(People who compile their own client) Building an ncurses-only client (no X11) or an X11+GCU combo client works again.
-The Linux/OSX clients support '-c' command-line option again to run in terminal-mode (ncurses). 'big_map' option does not work there.
-The GCU (ncurses) client will now use correct colours in Xcfe4's 'Terminal' terminal emulator.
-The GCU (ncurses) client should restore the original terminal colours again after exiting the game.
-A TomeNET icon in PNG format has been added to to the client.

Client-side changes in 4.5.2:
-'RPG' server has been renamed to 'Ironman' server.
-Fixed crash on exiting terminal-mode clients.
-Fixed a bug in the macro wizard causing '\e)' to be missing in the generated macro (fixed in 4.5.1a already).
-All spell damage type animations (usually 'cloud' spells cast by runemasters) now have improved colours and for the most part do not consume network bandwith anymore. Note that this client version is mandatory for this, or you will see only white instead, for most advanced spells. As a side effect, certain multi-coloured monsters may look slightly different than before (because their breath attack is of said damage type). Affected monsters are mostly bronze/gold dragonriders, sky/death drakes and blade angels. They should still be easily recognizable though, since the changes are minimal.
-The client now asks about enabling big_map mode the very first time you run it. (It is recommended to answer 'y' for yes, except if you're on a small notebook/netbook screen). Of course this option can always easily be changed in the client options menu ('=' key in game) too, as usual.
-Certain weather sfx stop playing correctly now.
-Weather rain/snowfall looks in conjunction with wind have been improved greatly.
-A bug that would prevent saving window coordinates/size on exit was fixed.
-When resizing Chat/message windows via mouse-dragging, they get updated on the fly without a client restart.
-When resizing the main window via mouse-dragging, it toggles big_map mode automatically (if the server allows it). Note that you still have to save client options to make the change persistent (press '=' then 's').
-Both 'trap set' and 'trap kit' was in use in different parts of texts/program code, this confusion has been resolved, it's 'trap kit' from now on. If you have macros that call 'trap set' by name, don't forget to change them to 'trap kit' accordingly.
-The big Lag-o-meter (invoked via TAB or CTRL+I) is now coloured. ;)
-Lore about races and classes is now displayed during character creation. Use 2/4/6/8 or arrow keys (and ENTER) to select races/classes, to read some descriptive text about them.
-Fixed potentially bugged window resizing (when done manually) in the OSX client.
-A bug under Wine has been fixed that caused freezing/failing when attempting to resize the main window. Wine must be 1.5.20 or newer.
-Hybrid macros no longer trigger in input prompts in ~2, ~4, ~6, ~7
-Improved lighting effects. Also try enabling 'view_granite_lite' in UI Options 1 (press '=' and '1'). It is enabled by default in 4.5.2 client release, if you installed it *freshly*.
-The 'view_bright_lite' option has been split up into two options, one for walls, one for floors. This is mainly because depending on the font, using view_bright_lite together with view_granite_lite might cause shaded granite walls to look too dark for some tastes.
-Players can edit font-win.prf (for Windows) and font-x11.prf (for Linux/OSX) respectively to map features to specific symbols. For example symbol 127 in the Windows fonts is a 'solid' block. The file f_info.txt which contains the numberic codes of all features is now included in the client for this purpose. An example file for Windows, 'font-win(solid).prf' is included in your TomeNET/lib/user folder. Simply replace the 'font-win.prf' file with this to give 'solid walls' visuals a try. :)

The 4.5.2 Windows client packages have been hotfixed.

Unfortunately a bad version of TomeNET/lib/user/font-win.prf in those was not properly overwritten by the ZIP toolchain, I still don't know why not.

If you already downloaded the 4.5.2 Windows client, you can hotfix it yourself by just deleting the file:
TomeNET/lib/user/font-win.prf

The bug that will otherwise come up is that you see bugged, black floor tiles that create wrong visuals and seem to 'smear'.

4.5.3 - client-side changes since last release:

First of all: A full install of this client over your existing one, to upgrade it, will no longer overwrite your tomenet.ini file. It won't overwrite your .prf files either, if you haven't given them "reserved" names on purpose. So doing a full client update is not only recommended but in fact pretty safe now.
  • New option 'view_animated_lite' animates lamp light to look more like it's coming from an actual flame.
  • New option 'font_map_solid_walls' displays all wall grids as solid blocks. This only works with certain fonts that support it, mostly Windows bitmap fonts that come with the client in TomeNET/lib/xtra/font. NOTE: If you already copied the 'font-win(solid).prf' file to 'font-win.prf' then you can simply delete the 'font-win.prf' file now and use this option instead, if you want it to be easily toggleable. This option does the exact same thing as that file did.
  • Macro wizard supports draconian element-breathing, under 'M) Use a basic ability with target'.
  • Guild configuration can be accessed in SHIFT+'P' -> 'e' now.
  • Options are saved to .opt files instead of .prf files, which makes room for saving them to <charactername>.opt, to have character-specific options. Options saved to 'global.opt' are account-wide settings. Character-specific options override global options. (You can rename your "TomeNET/lib/user/user.prf" file to "TomeNET/lib/user/global.opt").
  • It's now possible to search for a monster symbol and colour in 'Monster Lore' (~7), by entering an exclamation mark '!' into the search, followed by the monster's symbol and optionally either a colour code (same as for {... chat colour codes) or a 'm' for ATTR_ANY (monsters that flicker in all colours) or a 'M' for ATTR_MULTI (monsters that flicker depending on their elemental breaths). For example, type in "!DR" to see all greater dragons of bright red base colour. (Note that monsters that have both ATTR_ANY and ATTR_MULTI will only show up in 'm' list, not in 'M'.)
  • It's now possible to search for a monster's race index in 'Monster Lore' (~7), by entering a hash symbol '#' into the search, followed by the numerical index.
  • Certain actions that require items but didn't restrict inventory selection so far do this now: Recharging, enchanting, transcribing spells into custom books, (de)combining runes.
  • New runecraft features have been completed, in the 'm' -> 'draw a rune' menu and in the macro wizard ('storm' removed, 'sign' and 'sigil' spell types added). Runecraft has been extended in general, see guide (6.8b), (6.8c)!
  • Browsing spell details will now correctly erase the text left from a previously viewed spell.
  • The client will now automatically load the macro file 'arcade-win.prf' (on Windows) or 'arcade-x11.prf' (on Linux/OSX) when you log onto the Arcade Server. These macro files enable the default arcade controls listed in the guide in (8.5a) for easy handling.
  • Examining an empty customizable book in a store will no longer browse it instead.
  • A different warning sound has been added, that is played instead of the normal page sound for these events: Getting attacked while afk, low hit point warning, low sanity warning.
  • A new targetting method has been added to the macro wizard: Specific, fixed direction. It prompts you to pick one direction from '1' to '9', which will then always be used for that macro.
  • During macro execution, most input prompts will not be displayed because the user doesn't see them anyway. Exception: An input prompt fails.

4.5.3a: Client-side changes since 4.5.3:
  • Installing a new client (like this one) over your existing one will no longer reset your TomeNET.ini configuration file.
  • Fixed a bug in casting spells by names.
  • Animated lamp light flickers in a much calmer manner now.
  • A bug was fixed causing the inventory to stay dark-coloured after no eligible item was found for a particular action.
  • A glitch with command questions in the top line regarding macro execution has been fixed.
  • Artifact and monster lore in the client has been fixed to display correct stats for shields (base block chance), halloween monsters, and does no longer display monster variants of other server types instead of t
  • Monster/artifact lore now allow pasting both lore text and stats at once via SHIFT+C key.
  • The screenshot contained in a character's death dump has been fixed (regards bigmap mode).
  • A bug in the macro wizard has been fixed that prevented polymorphing into monsters by name if the name starts on a number (hydras).
  • Runecraft fixes.

4.5.3b:
  • Latest runecraft changes (see server-side changes too), making this client update mandatory for runecrafters.
  • Throwing command now accepts naming the item too.
  • Throwing added to the macro wizard.
  • Monster lore (~7) now displays symbol and colour in the search list already.

4.5.4:
  • When recreating a character of the same name you can just press '#' key on any prompt in the character creation process to use the previously used values/settings again, allowing you to easily create the same character over and over.
  • New option in =2 'uniques_alive': Displays only the uniques you have not yet killed in the unique list, it also shows the same for your party members.
  • In =f fonts for each window and whether or not a window is enabled can be set, so editing TomeNET.ini is no longer required for this.
  • The character screen also shows a table of all boni known to that character, accessible by pressing 'h' twice (normal overview -> history -> boni table).
