News:

1) Lightman made huge progress with font-custom files and put all monster information in excel %) its really cool approach - with such system its very easy to calculate right serial numbers and do not make any mistakes! First version is already ready and I hope Lightman would publish final version very soon :) This system would speed up our work _a lot_ and it could be very useful for other developers/moders in future %)

2) Thanks to PowerWyrm hint we got new source of graphics: very good tilesets could be found in Angband package. Just download last version: http://rephial.org/ and check tiles folder. There are two variants: gervais (32x32) and shockbolt (64x64). they are different and awesome.. :) I think we have to try to take as much good tiles from there as possible!.. Anyway we would need to change this tiles quite hard sometimes cause we reducing them from 32x32 to 21x31 and it make a lot of problem.. I'll make a guide about it today - how to port it with less loss of quality.

Hi,

The data Tangar is referring to can be found here.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxlp3 ... UdVaUNFU1E

Enter the graphics character you want to use in column E and any comments in Column F and the text for custom-font.prf should pop out in column G.

Multiple cells in column G should be selectable and pasteable into a .prf file.

Hope this will be useful.

Lightman.

Lightman, respect! It works PERFECT! %) Huge step forward!

Now its time for fill our font with monsters pictures!.. And everybody could help with it!

CALL TO ARMS!

I've made video guide - how to port/draw monsters from tilesets:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i34il1Jm6Ko

Anyone could help there! Links to instruments:

-- Fony - http://hukka.ncn.fi/?fony
-- "Angband" with awesome 32 and 64 tiles - http://rephial.org/
-- any graphical editor with BW and Threshold functions. If you don't have ps installed, try this ones:
----- free GIMP https://www.gimp.org/downloads/
----- free paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
----- free online photoshop http://www.photoshop.com/products/photoshopexpress

Right now most wanted monster tiles is dragon! Its quite hard to make it with 21x31. We need more variants to choose the best one! :) And all other monsters... Now we got only A-D %)) A lot of work ahead! Please don't to participate!

Please post links to your .fon files in this thread :)

Latest font file:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0JMO ... DJkVFBVMU0

Feel free to change existing objects ;) Also please notice, that its better to put 'changed' tiles in new, blank .fon file so it would be easy to understand what you changed :) The same with new drawn/converted monsters/objects :)

Also you could download font-custom file, but its quite far from release for now :) Tomorrow I'll updade it with the new data by Lightman :)

I might try and do one tile set or font a day and see how it goes.

These are a selection of some Nethack glyphs that I modified under its public domain license using black and white with a threshold of 64:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxlp3 ... FdCRXE0YTg

from:

http://rltiles.sourceforge.net/

If we want to use of any of these we appear to be honour bound to say:
Part of (or All) the graphic tiles used in this program is the public
domain roguelike tileset "RLTiles".
Some of the tiles have been modified by Lightman of Tomenet

You can find the original tileset at: http://rltiles.sf.net
I am planning to do another set tomorrow from somewhere else.

Good job!

Of course there would be a credit to all project participants and used tilesets :)

Took TomeTik tiles for old ToME ( http://pousse.rapiere.free.fr/tome/ ) and monochromed monsters from them @ 77 threshold. They are still 32x32 - for any people who would like to use them as it is: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0JMO ... UZtbTc3VDQ

Right now I'm making port for them into 21x31 - would upload it later.

Just finished converting TomeTik tiles for old ToME @ 77 threshold ( http://pousse.rapiere.free.fr/tome/ ) to 21x31:

This evening, I did an experiment on the same glyphs as Tangar, using a very low threshold.

TomeTik with low threshold:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxlp3 ... k9INjYzbjg

I found you tend to get outlines rather than filled shapes.

I also imported each glyph one at a time straight into a 31X21 font. Of course, the wider ones go off the end. I did do 22 monsters and I think they look better for not having been resized.

This was a quick experiment with Scroll of Sprites (a 16x16 monochrome that I up-sized to 21X31)

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxlp3 ... kVrZUllU1E

The licensing is explicitly free, although I haven't investigated further.

Personally, I think it looked better in 16X16, its intended usage. Some of them did come out well, like the spider and the serpent.
